Child's name, origin and determinant part two

Image
In the previous post I discussed the determinant of child's name in African tradition and I discussed the reasons behind every name in Africa most especially the traditional names and I stopped at Competition so I will continue from where I stopped. COMPETITION There is nobody born in a polygamous family that is enlightened, educated, famous, and knowledgeable enough that is not strived by the competition in the family. In fact your heroism or wealth and leadership status cannot be ever emphasized without regarding the competiveness in the family where you came from. Again, one good thing is that this competition did not just start when one is born it has been in existence even before you were conceived. Imagine  my name Promise Ogemdi, the       competition was that my mother will not have a male issue again because she lost her first son and now she is getting advanced in her age and as such reaching her menopause and her contender has had up to eight (8) issues among them

Child's name, origin and determinant

Image
A CHILD IS BORN According to the tradition of every family from ages, When a child is born the next thing that  happens in his or her Life is a celebration that a new creature has entered the earth and at this point a name will be given to the child. But the name which is given to this child may be determined by the society at large or by direct members of the family of the new born baby or even by the Parents alone. According to the understanding we have about every name. It is widely accepted that one’s name is predicated upon his/her future. These may be true because the meaning and origin of a name has to connect us with the life experiences that our people, parents or society had suffered or benefitted from before our emergence on earth. In Africa, the case is not different that the dominated part of family settling in Africa are domiciled  by polygamous family so, name became a means of direct or indirect way of expression  especially in the side of women married to such famili

GOVERNMENT AND SCHOOLS

Image
Schools and running costs   Schools in Nigeria are owned either by government (public)  or individuals (private), the public was known to be less costly because of the government involvement in the management and running of the school both the primary and secondary schools. When I was very tender around 3-5 years we were told that in the olden days that before you start primary school that you must be at least six years of age and as well your fingers have to be touching your ear ( that's if it's your right hand, it must touch your left ear when you place it over your head) it was practically conducted then to know people who are 6 years and above then, gradually the process started vanishing like a smoke, I started my primary school then in the year 1999 and I was one of the smallest among my classmates, after our primary school we graduated to secondary school but before we graduated, during our primary school days there was what we used to call craftsmanship, every t

Child bearing and shape in marriage

Image
I was watching a movie today titled "homeless home"  and there was this lady that destroyed her home and marriage because she doesn't want to get pregnant and loose her shape so that her husband will always see her attractive. I have been wondering what exactly a lady will be doing in marriage if she doesn't want to bear a child for her husband and this scenario has left me in the verge of asking is it wise for someone to venture into marriage if she or he doesn't want to bear children?  Can a man truly love a woman who truly does not want to give him a child because she is trying to keep her shape for him? I am yet to figure out what youths of nowadays see marriage as regards to what is happening in the world today I am afraid to say that marriage will be very bad. Divorce is everywhere, husband's and wife cheating every day even the unmarried young women intentionally and proudly date married men. The only thing that matters to them is the pleasure of the t
